Thank you for sending me this link. I loved the early monring. I can feel the monring air and excitement of the ballooning to come. I loved watching the laying out of the balloon and the close ups of the setting up and then taking off of the balloons. It showed me the dedication and the love these people have for their sport and hobby. Thanks

Have you considered pressurizing the cooling system to raise the boiling point of the coolant so that it stays in contact with the internal surface of the cooling blocks. Automotive cooling systems use on average 15 - 18lbs to prevent the coolant from boiling at regular air pressure and keeping the coolant in full contact with the internal surfaces of the engine block and head(s).

Why not do a wired-AND configuration with the e-stops, motion sensors, and tilt sensors? I'd trust that more than an Arduino.

There are also a few changes I'd make to the software:

1) Add a watchdog, just in case.
2) Don't do the is_laser_on() check when detecting stop conditions. If, for whatever reason, the state gets desynchronized (the laser is on but is_laser_on() says it isn't), there's no way to turn it off.
3) Shut down the laser BEFORE spitting out a message to the serial port.

Still, very awesome!

Maybe the wiring diagram would show this, but I hope the 4 E-Stops are hard wired in series to drop power to the laser, independent of the software monitoring.

Did you guys make it to Toor?

What did you use to collumnate each diode? The lenses in the original block won't focus to infinity and beyond...

I've built many 445nm lasers and found that the back of the diode presents a concentrated area that can be useful in getting heat away from the die (vs just the press-fit contact of the perimeter).

Hi,
wonderful your manifesto above.
we are from a new Hacker space in Berlin, called the p1r4t3 c4v3, below the meta mate bar. Besides a Pirate Harbour we do lots of mate hacking, from limonades to mopcorn (mate popcorn). One of our ideas but broke trough in main stream, the Pirate Cave Mier (Mate Bier). We hear from you on a text from Bre Pettis at the Hacker Brause Book and wonder if you would be interested to have the Mier over there. Besides being a Bier that makes one awaken it is cc licensed and was developed the taste and content using liquidizer a liquid democracy platform from the south German pirates.
Looking forward to hear from you,
Fab) @oinfiltrado23
